IANS' Fall Forums!
Although it seems like the summer has just begun, IANS is hard at work planning for our the kickoff to the second half of 2011's Forums, beginning in September with the New England Information Security Forum on September 20-21, 2011 in Boston. This year we will feature 5 main tracks:
Information Protection in a Borderless World: In an increasingly mobile world, information security teams are challenged with finding ways to:
- Secure the data that is pertinent to their organizations
- Purge what is irrelevant
- Consider technologies that help protect corporate information
- Justify to upper management how these tasks contribute to the overall success of the business.
Join Aaron Turner in his roundtable sessions as he leads discussion around creating a data and metrics focused security organization.
Security 2.0: The Proactive Security Organization: Building and managing a proactive security organization that is able to navigate organizational changes, budget and personnel constraints, and heightened awareness around incidents, is a growing problem for many organizations. Using a fictional company as a use case, Marcus Ranum leads interactive discussions and role-plays that provoke participants to think about alternative strategies for running a truly proactive security organization.
Next Generation Security Operations: Security professionals must continually assess the myriad of tools and technologies that assist in protecting organizational information assets. Added pressure from non-security professionals who are pushing the latest and greatest buzzwords like “cloud,” “SEIM,” and “risk management,” can muddy the waters. Join Dave Shackleford as he guides dialog around best practices for evolving security operations.
Strategy 2.0: Anticipating Legislation, Mitigating Risk: Security and legal teams should be closely aligned in order to advance the protection and controls of corporate data. Too often, though, these two groups work independently, often creating snags in the process. Both a practicing information security attorney and technologist, Randy Sabett helps participants in his sessions understand:
- New laws and regulations coming down from Capitol Hill
- Regulatory impact on technology
- A legal perspective on including new technologies like cloud and social media in your organization’s mix
- How to balance security and privacy.
Application Security with Impact: The application security market is one of the most frequently attacked yet underinvested areas of the security stack. During his roundtable session, Josh Corman leads interactive exchange on:
- Whether it is better for your organization to build or buy software
- Which tools to focus for specific types of AppSec projects
- Which metrics are most useful
- The role of governance in Application Security.
The New England Forum is always one of our biggest so we expect a great crowd and a lot of discourse that we hope will fuel your plans for 2012. We urge you to think about your challenges in these 5 areas and contact us to speak with IANS’ Faculty, either prior to the Forum or to seed the roundtable discussions at the event. As an end-user focused organization, we are always excited to hear from practitioners and learn if we’re hitting the topics that matter most to you!
