What is IANS E-Secure-IT? IANS E-Secure-IT is an alert and early warning service, powered by our partner E-Secure-IT.
Our proprietary system scans thousands of sources for security information, advisories, alerts, vulnerabilities and through hackers released exploits. When scans are complete, we screen them, classify them and selectively forward those that meet your profile to a preferred email address, SMS account or RSS feed. Alert messages are categorized as Green (informational) Yellow (Need to know) Red (Must know) prior to being sent.

Can't I get this info from my security software vendor? Software suppliers are notorious for not reporting vulnerabilities in their own software promptly.
They are reluctant to acknowledge that their products may be deficient. Many exploits are first detected by end-users rather than suppliers.

How current is IANS E-Secure-IT?
Many IT security problems and issues only surface once business users trigger them.
The core E-Secure-IT operation is based in New Zealand, 17 hours ahead of EST. Organizations start their business day there first, so many security problems show up in the Pacific first. IANS E-Secure-IT is the only IT alert system that operates in the Pacific in addition to Europe, the United States and India. Our geographical locations give our subscribers a unique international advantage. Our staff operating on a 7/24 basis will normally detect a problem first - and you will receive the Alert at that time.

Can't I just do this myself? Theoretically, yes, you can - provided you are willing to have a team of people working around the clock 24x 7x365 monitoring many, many sources and another set of people editing and monitoring the work done by the initial set of people.
On average, only a quarter of an hour saved per day will result in a positive ROI. Miss one source and you have put your organization at risk - both operational risk and reputation risk. "Monitoring security issues and making sure all the latest patches are installed on your system could be almost a full-time job for one staff member in a moderate-sized IT department", says Jay Garden, head of the government's Centre for Critical Infrastructure Protection (CCIP). "And it still won't confer complete protection", said Jay Garden, head of the New Zealand government's Centre for Critical Infrastructure Protection (CCIP) in a New Zealand Computer Society session in Wellington in late July 2003.

How many hours per day will I be covered for? Our operations run continually 24x7x365
with security specialists ALWAYS monitoring our sources and updating our system with new information within minutes of it becoming available.

How much of my time do I have to give up? None.
Instead, you and your team will re-gain quite a few hours daily since you no longer need to look for new potential threats. We do that for you. In addition, since our alerts are near real time, our early warning service will help you avoid hours typically spent fixing system exploitation by taking action against such breaches before they occur.

What assures the privacy of Subscriber information? Customer privacy is a high priority for IANS E-Secure-IT.
To that end, no customer details including subscribed folders are viewable by anyone other than by the individual customers.

What sort of workload is involved? Our security teams process an average of 25,000 items daily.
However this number easily doubles with a serious virus outbreak. For example, 200 information items on the Blaster worm were received in less than one hour. Some 2% to 4% of the items handled and analyzed are actually entered into the system. A single piece of hardware or software rarely receives more than 5 vulnerability reports per day. Per 24 hours we add on average between 400 and 800 Alert Items to the knowledgebase.
