Protecting the critical data requires first classifying data and mapping who is
accessing what. This can be done by aggregating and analyzing logs. When the
critical data has been defined, today’s common practices include encryption (of data
at rest and in motion) and use of anti-data leakage tools to “stop stupid” leaks. While

Recommendations include developing a data security plan (which few have), and
focusing first on protecting the structured data in one (or a few) key databases.
