Two CISOs walk into a bar and… end up talking shop because that’s what we do in infosec. In this session, IANS will bring together two CISOs who will have a one-on-one interview, candidly discussing their perspectives on:

  • Current events and developments in the security market
  • Running a team & aligning with the business
  • Managing the stress of the job and growing as a CISO
Part way through the session, we’ll open the floor for participation. Come with questions ready and expect to leave with actionable insights from your peers.

Leadership Session

This session covers leadership skills that position CISOs to manage their teams more effectively and develop the executive presence to succeed with management. It includes:

  • Teaching on leadership skills. Examples: Servant leadership, managing with empathy and handling crisis situations
  • Workshops, open Q&A, and similar opportunities to internalize the leadership discussions through interaction.
  • Group discussion on how to apply the leadership skills in concrete, actionable ways.

Summer Craze Fowler is an accomplished CSuite executive and cybersecurity expert with over 20 years of experience developing technical strategies and leading engineering teams to achieve aggressive technical goals while also in hyper-growth mode. Summer’s strong technical background is rooted in a business-minded approach supporting her proven ability to effectively disposition cyber security as one of many business risks. She is an experienced board governance professional through her work with both corporate and non-profit boards. Summer was named as one of the Top 25 Women in Cyber Security by The Software Report (2021).

Summer is the Chief Information Officer and Chief Information Security Officer for Argo AI, an artificial intelligence company focused on self-driving vehicle technology. In this role she develops and leads the strategy and execution of both the IT and cyber security teams. Summer also leads Facilities, Logistics, and Physical Security at Argo. She led the technical activities of the successful international acquisition of a 300+ person company in the EU. She is an expert in business continuity and cyber crisis management.

Steven Martano

Steven Martano

The Caldwell Partners, Consultant, Cyber Security Practice

Steven Martano is a consultant in Caldwell Partners’ Cyber Security Practice. He recruits across the information security function, including CISOs, CSOs, cyber advisory board members, and cyber leaders in professional services.

Steven spent seven years at Russell Reynolds Associates, where he helped build the Cyber Security and Supply Chain functional practices, serving as a member of the global Corporate Officers practice.

Earlier in his career, Steven worked at Sikorsky Aircraft (then part of United Technologies Corporation), where he led operations and financial planning for multi-billion contracts for the U.S military and key international customers in the Middle East, Asia and South America.

In addition to his professional career, Steven serves as an editor and featured writer at Beyond the Box Score, SB Nation’s baseball analytics platform, and is a contributing columnist to FanGraphs’ The Hardball Times. He holds a BA from The Catholic University of America and a master’s degree in economics & finance from Trinity College.

IANS is developing an Executive Competencies Framework tracking the skills and competencies CISOs need to succeed as they mature in the role, both today and over the next 36 months. During this session, IANS Faculty member Summer Fowler and Steve Martano, Partner, Cybersecurity Practice at Artico Search, will:

  • Share the highlights of this research
  • Discuss how the market values different competencies
  • Provide guidance on how to develop and demonstrate various competencies in real-world settings

Collin is an Area Vice President at IANS and currently responsible for overseeing, managing and growing IANS End User Business Practice in the Mid-west, Mid-Atlanta and Southern portions of the U.S. Collin obtained his Bachelor of Science from James Cook University in Australia and holds graduate certificates in Applied Project Management and Business Analysis from Boston University.
