Agentic AI: Adoption and Transparency Considerations for Federal Government Agencies
Federal agencies face a unique set of transparency obligations. As agencies consider deploying agentic AI—systems that autonomously produce actions and outputs—they must recognize that these outputs and intermediate outputs (such as reasoning tokens or agentic planning steps) may be official records subject to records retention requirements and Freedom of Information Act requests. Explanations on how the outputs were generated may be called into question. In this in-person Insight Exchange, geared specifically for those working in federal agencies, IANS Faculty Jake Williams facilitates a dialogue among peers and provides a practical framework for assessing transparency risks and preparing for the adoption of agentic AI in government environments.
